Hallmark of Excellence
Are you someone who strives for excellence? I firmly believe that all of us are here to achieve greatness; to be the best that we can be and to shake and move the world. There is nothing more satisfying than overcoming a challenge that was previously deemed insurmountable; nothing more satisfying than looking back at who you are now and realizing that you have grown much more than you thought you could. To be human is to live to our highest potential.
In my years of pursuit of organizational excellence, I have found that all top performers have an unswerving singleness of purpose. They are 100 percent, full-time committed to their chosen pursuit. The reason for this is they have an unbridled enthusiasm for what they do. They absolutely love it. They do not even consider work as work, it is play to them. Their vocation is actually their vacation. This enables them to be macro-thinkers or big-picture seers.
Excellence is possible only when we develop and work with the mantra of 5 P’s – Passion, Principles, Purpose, Perseverance and Prayer. Passion is the most important and indispensible ingredient, as it is what fuels dreams to reality. Perseverance is the indomitable spirit that will not rest and brave all impediments, till it has reached the summit. Stephen R Covey in his book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ contends that principles are the representation of personality ethics and make a powerful comparison of principles to light houses guiding a ship.
According to him the light house (principles) aids individuals in reaching his or her intended destination. Sense of purpose is like a roadmap or compass that helps us to see where we are going and how we need to achieve our goal. And finally for taking us to any greater heights we need God.
At Father Agnel School, excellence is the hallmark of education and our vision is to craft individuals with a high motivation for excellence through our knowledge sharing, skill development and career orientation with a sense of contribution to the larger society. I always believed the greatest achievement lies in smallest seed of dedication and commitment. Martin Luther King Jr says “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did hisjob well.” This inspiring message is the tone of our engagement with our education.
Father Agnel School, Noida is committed to bring out the very best in every child and hence our curriculum is a unique blend of scholastic & co-scholastic experiences, such that, amongst myriad possibilities that flavour his learning, he might also find his true calling and achieve excellence.
Our mascot,The Lesser Crested Tern in flight rightly portrays our indefatigable pursuit of human & academic excellence, even if the flight be lonely and fraught with hostilities. Hence courage, innovation & enterprise is the identifying attitude of all Agnelites and the corner stone of a life that will be exemplary in all aspects.
What motivated me to write this to you was the story of Toronto’s Spencer West, whose legs were amputated below the pelvis when he was five years old due to a genetic disorder, yet nothing could stop him. Spencer West woke up at 4:30 a.m. Monday to begin climbing towards the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. He moved steadily, but slowly, hand over hand along the rocky path. Near exhaustion, he reached the top at 11:15 a.m. June 2012 and collapsed. Unlike other mountains, such as the deadly Mt. Everest, which must be climbed, the 5,895-metre-high Tanzanian mountain can be hiked. And, unlike other hikers, West reached the summit without legs.
Sometimes life is too precious to be only mediocre, to be average, to be only so, to be only okay. Make a decision now to fully commit to our dreams, goals and aspirations. Make a decision now to incorporate, believe in, trust and live by excellence. Let us be the people of excellence who go the extra mile to do what’s right to be on the top. In this venture, the School invites students, parents, alumni, benefactors and well wishers to join them in their dream of excellence into a reality.
God bless you all!
