Bookaroo Festival
A Day of Storytelling and Discovery at Sunder Nursery
Our journey to the Bookaroo Festival began with great excitement as we boarded the bus, ready for a day full of fun and learning. The lively atmosphere was filled with laughter and chatter, making the ride a memorable part of the experience. Upon reaching the beautiful and tranquil Sunder Nursery, we were welcomed by its lush greenery and serene environment, setting the tone for the enriching day ahead.
The first session kicked off with a talk by Andaleeb Wajid, an accomplished author known for her relatable and empowering stories. She introduced us to her popular book, "The Henna Startup," which explores the struggles and triumphs of women entrepreneurs. Her candid discussion about the challenges faced by working women was eye-opening and gave us a fresh perspective on resilience. We were then divided into groups for a creative activity, where we were tasked with designing an app that could address problems faced by people around us. This engaging exercise sparked many innovative ideas and fostered a sense of teamwork and empathy.
The next session was led by Arefa Tehsin, a passionate writer and wildlife enthusiast. Her session stood out as she introduced us to a quirky puppet named Yoda, which added a playful touch to the discussion. Arefa shared her deep love for nature and her experience in writing wildlife fiction and non-fiction. She took us on an imaginative journey through her books, bringing the wild to life. We were then invited to participate in an interactive activity where we described an animal using only sounds and smells—a fun and educational exercise that honed our observational skills and creativity.
The third session took place amidst nature's embrace, featuring two talented authors who tried to combine scientific facts with mythology in their storytelling. Their collaborative work gave us a fascinating glimpse into how science and folklore can intertwine to create compelling narratives. The discussion was filled with intriguing anecdotes, leaving us eager to explore their books further.
After the sessions, we had some free time to explore the vibrant book stalls. The sight of so many books was a dream come true for us young readers. We browsed through the collections, bought our favourite titles, and even had the opportunity to get them signed by the authors—a delightful experience that made our books even more special. We also got to interact with the authors, asking them questions and learning about their inspirations and writing journeys.
As the day drew to a close, we left the Bookaroo Book Fest with our minds filled with stories, our hearts inspired, and our bags heavier with new books. It was a day that not only celebrated the joy of reading but also nurtured our creativity, broadened our perspectives, and gave us memories that we will cherish for a long time.
